Terms of Use

Version 2026-10-13 · iPhone, iPad and Android

In short: VesselRef is a free tool for qualified seafarers. It finds the page; you make the call. It comes without warranty, and the maker's manual, your company's procedures and the Master's orders always come first.

These terms

These terms are between you and the independent developer of VesselRef (the developer). They apply to the app on iPhone, iPad and Android, wherever you got it. By using the app you accept them. The same text is in the app and at vesselref.com/app/terms.

Using the app

You may install and use VesselRef on devices you own or control, for your own work and study. Please do not copy, resell or redistribute the app, take it apart to make a competing product, or use it against the law or your company's rules. VesselRef is free; every feature works without paying.

A tool, not the decision

VesselRef helps you keep and search your own documents and notes. It does not replace the maker's manual, your company's safety management system and procedures, the muster list, drills, the Master's or Chief Engineer's orders, or your own training and judgement. Always read the cited page yourself and decide for yourself. Do not use VesselRef where its failure, a wrong search result or a flat battery could put people, the ship or the environment at risk without another source at hand.

Your documents

The documents and notes you add stay yours, and the developer receives none of them. You are responsible for having the right to keep them on your device and for following your company's policy on documents, photos and confidentiality. VesselRef ships with no manuals; manuals belong to their makers.

On-device answers

Where the device supports it, short answers are written on the device from your own pages and show the pages they come from. They can be incomplete or wrong. Setpoints and values are shown as the page itself; read them there. The safety section is a quick reference only: the muster list, drills and the Master's orders come first.

No warranty

VesselRef is provided as it is and as available, without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. The developer does not promise that it is free of errors, always available, or right for a particular purpose, or that search will find every page.

Limits of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, the developer is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for loss of data, or for decisions made with the app. If the developer is found liable anyway, the total is limited to what you paid for support subscriptions in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that cannot be limited, or liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Keep your own backups

Your data lives only on your device. If the device is lost, broken or reset, or the app is deleted, the data is gone unless you saved a backup. Use the app's encrypted backup and keep the original documents.

Support subscriptions

Support is optional and unlocks nothing; every feature is free. Subscriptions are monthly and renew automatically at the price shown until you cancel. Payment and refunds are handled by the store under its terms.

Supporter perks (badge, feature proposals, Telegram links, a call with the developer) are thanks, not part of the app. The developer may change or end a perk; feature proposals are read, not promised.

Third parties

The App Store, Google Play, Telegram, LinkedIn and the on-device models from Apple and Google are run by other companies under their own terms. If you got VesselRef from the App Store, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies; Apple is not a party to these terms and has no duty to provide support or maintenance for the app.

Updates and changes

Updates may add, change or remove features. If these terms change, the new version comes with an app update and is posted at vesselref.com/app/terms, with a new date above. If you do not agree, stop using the app and delete it.
